If you know Amanda (Sokolnicki) Hensler, you know she is a wonderful mother, loving wife, dear friend, and one of the sweetest souls you will meet. If you don’t know Amanda, she is one of the co-owners of Heart Mercantile. She’s a Dayton native, graduate of Chaminade-Julienne High School and Wright State University. Amanda is the sassy, curly-haired brunette you’ve maybe seen behind the counter helping run the show, lifting all the heavy things and being our resident drill specialist.
While working at Heart Mercantile, Amanda received a call from her doctor that changed a lot in an instant and brought us all to our knees. It’s every woman’s worst nightmare.
Amanda has been diagnosed with Stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer.
It is particularly devastating news as she lost her mother to breast cancer when she was 8 years old and has lived with the fear of this possibility her entire life. Amid this really fucking shitty news, Amanda is in good spirits; cracking jokes, and continuing to be the strong, badass babe she’s always been.
While Amanda is the one with the life-altering diagnosis, we aren’t going to let her battle cancer alone. We are going to do everything in our power to help Amanda, Zach, and their son Beau get through this. We are strategizing and plotting to ensure that she can focus on her health, take the appropriate time she needs off work to heal, and not worry about the daunting costs of cancer treatments and bills. The “titty committee” is in the beginning stages of researching resources, and if any of friends here have fun ideas, personal experiences, and organizations they can share, we would be so grateful. This news is very sudden. Please respect Amanda and her family’s space while they try to make arrangements. We will be posting links and contact info soon for all those wanting to help!
This is all a reminder of how truly precious life is and what really matters. Dayton has always stepped up in support of their own and we're asking for your help, again.
Also, FUCK CANCER.
